MOTIVATION
Magnitude was made in a week-long game jam at S&T for the theme "gravity". My goal was to make a simple yet engaging arcade-style game with a fun core loop. I am very satisfied with how it turned out, and I think the sandbox-y tools I gave the player resulted in one of my most fun games to date.

GAME CONCEPT
The player must survive an onslaught of enemy ships as asteroids hurtle by. Out of conventional ammo, they must utilize their ship's gravitational controls to cause deadly collisions. Slingshot an asteroid into an enemy ship or launch a photon right back at the sender, use the power of gravity!

TAKEAWAYS
This game taught me how easily a good core mechanic can make all the pieces fall together. By establishing a simple set of rules, the player can be set loose and express their playstyle using the tools they've been given. Going forward I hope to program systematic interactions like this on a larger scale, and to continue to design engaging and addictive gameplay loops.
