MOTIVATION
The Burden was one of my first personal projects. Originally, I didn't intend on it being much more than a concept, but as I worked on it I felt compelled to implement real game mechanics and make it into a fully playable game. My previous projects up to this point had all been to facilitate my learning of game design and Unity. With this game I wanted to create something more expressive.
GAME CONCEPT
The player faces a mountain that seems to stretch up forever. A boulder weights them down, and the path up the mountain is treacherous and fraught with the unknown. The player will face "burdens" near certain landmarks, where they must use proper timing to fend off their doubts.

TAKEAWAYS
As one of my earlier projects this game was still a stepping stone in learning game programming and game engines. Completing this game also forced me to remain steadfast as I became demotivated when I started making the art (as you can likely tell, it isn't my forte). It was a valuable lesson and for my projects in the future I'll plan appropriately to mitigate such roadblocks. If I feel my target design is outside of my artistic capabilities, I'll get help through collaboration or resourcing. Overall, I hope with proper planning and design, I can continue to create games that push my creativity.
